Don't know the actual dressing but it doesn't sound too hard, choose your booby eyes, probably black, black thread, body of peacock herl, for the rib tie in small opal mirage tinsel, then small red tinsel, wind red tinsel up first then overlay it with mirage tinsel, add some marabou blood tips behind the booby eyes.

Best regards
Jim

can remember seeing some notes on how to tie it (but not sure where), there was some trick on the tinsel but you right on the red not sure exactly which red of tinesel but it kinda of shines through as a mixture of pearl etc.

I've always used red holographic tinsel, overlaid with Opal mirage tinsel, for any traffic light patterns i've done, ..ie: buzzers, db's, crunchers and cormorants, i've not seen the booby cormorant you're on about, but i'm guessing it's the same.

Best regards
Jim

I've been tying and using this pattern on my local water......It's been a killer this year on virtually any line!

I knock mine up with the following materials.

1. Black UTC 70 Thread
2. B175 #10 - #12
3. Red Holo Tinsel
4. Pearl Mirage Tinsel
5. Black Marabou
5. 5mm Booby Tube Black

Red Holo goes in first then the pearl in over the top....I tend to run a thin layer of super glue between the red and pearl to make the fly a little more durable. Then the marabou and finally the eyes......I prefer putting the eyes on last as I think the overall finish is tidier. I know there are plenty of views on when and how Booby eyes should go on.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Tim

Just to add, i also add a rib of extremely fine silver wire, just for extra durability

Red holigraphic? is that what i call the spotted holigraphic tinsel or is i like one kind of red or solid red.

The reason i ask is that the red holdigraphic i got it like dotted or prism effect and one trout and the pattern is knackered.

someone told me that there are other tinsels stronger. so what brand of red tinsel are you using and is it med large or small? many tx

be nice to have a durable pattern , although with tinsel on my flies its normally one fly one fish ps lucky to get the fish lol

I use a bog standard Red Holographic tinsel which has the prism effect you mention. Size doesn't make a lot of difference it's just forming a colour base before the pearl mylar goes in....The super glue between the two tinsels does a great job to ensure the pattern lasts for a good number of fish....If anything, I find the wing tends to deteriorate before the body!

Medium Holographic tinsel Red
