We are delighted to share an excellent video from the Loughs Agency on the conservation and management of sea trout in the River Foyle

The Loughs Agency write that: Key biological data is required to help develop sustainable fishery management regimes for this enigmatic species, and this needs to be collected through coordinated surveys designed to capture representative information across catchments.

Basic information on local spawning locations is sometimes absent requiring persistent efforts to identify currently productive areas and to restore previously productive habitats.

The video attempts to describe some steps which are being taken to increase our knowledge base of this form of trout and to raise awareness of the threats and opportunities for this iconic animal. It is hoped the video can contribute towards constructive debates on the conservation, protection and improvement of trout and the habitats they rely on.
