If it's anything like the Manifold up there the fish will be in the deeper pools. Small weighted nymphs should find them. Lovely up the Dales this time of year.

I have a pass-out myself this afternoon while the Mrs does the pre-Christmas cleaning. The river Wye is five mins away so I can give it an hour or so and see how it goes.

Update.

Started to fish and missed a fish (one). One of our members comes down to the river and tells me he took thirty (!) fish on this pool about an hour ago. He's part of the Welsh flyfishing Team. I told him we're banning french nymphing, moved on and blanked. He landed a 10lb salmon on his grayling rig last month.
Great afternoon to be out the house - he's Christmas shopping tomorrow, so I'll be back!

Back out on the Avon on a glorious day, the sun shone and the fish were obliging:

Vince after a hard day at the coal face, I don't need to read any threads about glorious days on the Avon particularly when I will be back at work tomorrow

Sounds like you had a good day, looking forward to next week.

I'll let tailing loop tell you what sort of day we had
Enjoyable day and hopefully plenty of things for Simon to try
Very cold but the river was in mint condition
We didn't do as much fishing as I would have liked us to do but the time looking at the river and showing where fish could be well time well spent

I broke a old habit and returned to Tuesdays stretch of river , just did not fancy a hard day covering pools spaced out , to be honest I started off further down the river in a slow moving part of the river that is very wide .

The fish were obliging again , as I fished up in water that I fished on Tuesday the fishing was much harder , I grinded it out and picked up fish at a steadier pace .

After a few hours I went grid fishing , picked more fish up in a deep drop off on the far bank , the river now starts to take on more character and fish were caught in slack spots near or around the faster currents .

This faster water is more productive in the Summer months , although some of the fish have decided to stay around , after 4 hours on the river I decided to call it a day .

A very productive day with lots of grayling caught on PTN and Hares Ears , hopefully I will be out again on a different spot tomorrow .

Wind speed up to 49 tomorrow! I had thought about coming down tomorrow but the forecast is not good.
