Danny welcome to the real world for those of us who don't live in gods country To be honest I don't think the fish will know if they want to be up or down until the weather has settled for a few days.

The rivers are low and crystal clear down here and the water temp has probably risen considerably overnight. Add sustained high pressure wev've had and now a big low front and it'll take 2-3 days before the water temp and pressure stabilises which means come the weekend there should be some very good sport.

On one hand this weekend I'll be cursing Pete T because the rivers will be perfect down here and I've booked in for a days fishing and coaching with him and Nick Hart at Exe Valley . The good news is that although it's forecast for rain all day we could be in for a bumper days sport with decent wind, temps and being overcast + it's C&R for the day which is how I prefer to fish.

I,m working on the wife but I think Sunday on the river may be pushing my luck

I am new to river fishing and in particular, using a french leader. Do you guys tend to make your own leaders or buy one ready made? If the latter, any recommendation for a good one to try? Many Thanks.

I use the Hends Camou 9M and cut 5-6ft off it and add a braid indicator before attaching my tippet to dropper and then tippet to point fly.

Cutting it back helps with turnover and by time you've added indicator, tippet to dropper and tippet point fly you still have close to a 9M leader.

There are probably better ones out there but I haven't had any problems with it.

In my humble experience Dave, it's better to play the long game. I plan on fishing for many years to come, and I'd rather not be single.

This approach suits me, Parrot, and I learnt a lot more confidence in my own knots along the way
