  1. Week 6 at the Leeds FDG

Done a night concentrating on hackles, first a Bi-visible, then a griffiths gnat. Tied a 20 GN and looked OK, so did another couple, one of the best flies in my box for still and rivers.
Next week is Firework night so no meeting, then the week after we have Stuart Crofts to talk and demo some of his flies, should be a good night. I've seen Crofty a few times at various shows and he's a very skilled tyer with a Yorkshire wit. Got a tip to stock up on barbless hooks as the makers are changing ...

  2. The Golden Loch nr Newburgh 28/10/14

Leaving Dunfermline in pretty terrible weather we headed up to the north of Fife . by the time we got up to the Loch and took a 2 fish ticket then catch and release for 15. good value for the money. it was still raining but had lessened off a lot. Conditions overcast ,temp 10c,light rain with water clarity 3feet. We had the Loch to ourselves the whole day. The wind died for a while and we started in the bay to the left of the pier where the odd fish was turning over . a small green damsel on the ...

Went for a second day at the Marazion pit. The carpark was filled with transits that are doing something important. After a ten point turn in six inches of mud I found a parking place a 100 yds back. Somehow msnaged to lock myself out of the car with both rods still in it. Cost a couple of hours and a a taxi to get the spare set of keys to open the car. 35. One just has to swallow and note it's less than a parking ticket. Another example of somethingyou pay for absolutely nothing. You just have ...

Back to Roskillies today with the 15 minute strategy. Another blank. Despite fine mesh bread for ground baiting, the ducks still turn up and give a good diving session. So gave up on the attractor bit and just moved location of baits, float and ledger every twenty minutes. Covered a fair bit of ground in three hours but still not a touch.

The commercial I visited had a fair bit of surface activity around foliage reeds or pads.Nothing here. The sad thing is it's so beautiful and has ...

Beginning to doubt myself so spent a fiver for a few hours. Ugly lake and poorly maintained. The swim I chose had broken boards in the fishing station with the wire mesh in a right old state. but, it looked 'fishy'. Twenty fish. mostly small roach and bream but four carp. One, under two pounds, but the rest deffo three or four bags of sugar territory One ran for the horizon but the others just hugged the bottom. Playing the latter was just a tug of war getting them to the surface; much preferred ...
