If you scroll down here, you'll get a table with the sizes and the various gap spans...

8mm Hook to Hook Open Body Turnbuckle Straining Screw Stainless Steel Marine 714757304457 | eBay

If memory serves, the two I have are a 6 mm and an 8 mm. They cover every thwart size between them.

PS: Memory didn't serve. Just as well I went down to the garage and checked. I have an 8 mm and a 10 mm.

I’ve been thinking of buying a folding boat seat and seeing if i can modify it, before i go to caithness in 4 weeks time.

I’ll mostly be fishing from boats like the ones below. What would be the best set up to go with for the folding seats on this type of boat? Any help or tips appreciated

We have 1 boat with that seating arrangement and we provide a board to go over the back to attach our folding seats as most of us have gone the route of the folding seat and not the airflo style of over the gunwales .

I have fished form those Watten boats a few times. I don't think they are all identical, but they are much the same. I am trying to remember if any are the 'horseshoe' type.

The problem with all those Sweeney type boats is that they don't have a thwart where the stern rod wants to sit. You either have to put an extending plank type seat such as a 'Rutland'/Bob Church on top of the gunwales, or fit it lengthways inside the boat. It depends a lot on whether you are nearer the height of Richard Osman or Ronnie Corbett. I put mine lengthways inside, like this...

There are probably buoyancy tanks under the bow seat (like in that one above), so whoever is sitting there needs to know they can't use ratchet straps.

If you get a 'horseshoe' type, it is even more awkward to fit a seat inside it... and level! That is where the yoga block comes in...

But I find it really good, being able to swivel left-right without being constrained by having a thwart between my legs. It's better for my bad hip, and it's better for covering rising fish.

But then some folk just mount a seat on a square of wood and plonk it wherever the thwart is...

Pays yer money and takes yer choice...

I had a spare bucket seat and swivel plate sitting in the lock-up, so I thought I may as well put them to use and make up a simple 'seat to base' arrangement for occasions where my extending plank is not needed. I found a suitable piece of wood, and cut it to length. I mounted the swivel plate on it and then added a piece of anti-slip rubber to the underside. Then I ordered a pair of Velcro straps...

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A lot simpler and easier to use than ratchet straps!

    Job done...

I used it on a trip up north a couple of weeks ago, where I knew I would be in the bow seat the whole time. The one issue with the clamp arrangement is, it can damage a wooden thwart. No such issues with the rubber-covered base...

    It's nice and lightweight, too.

And if need be, I can put it on the extending plank just as easily as the clamp version...

Although I could have put it straight onto the stern thwart in that situation, I prefer having the free 'swivel room' in front of me and, being left-handed, it gives me more elbow room from the leccy motor.
