    Hi!

    Apart from any mandatory safety equipment, from my experience you need:
    - watertight bag/box to put your stuff;
    - floating anchor;
    - enough rope to be tugged if relevant.

    Enjoy it!

    My suggestion would be to practice in a safe environment getting back on when afloat not easy when out of your depth.

    Not sure if you will be taking the kayak out on your own, single person in a tandem is not as stable and difficult to control, a large drybag filled with water in the spare seat helps improve this.

    Never heard of using extra ballast , could probably sit in the rear seat and put gear in the front seat ,something to try , found some you tube videos , looking forward to getting out
