I'd come to these meets if I could.
Just out of interest, how far north in the UK do you get?

I think Shropshire (Oswestry) is the farthest north they venture these days. Sadly, lack of support elsewhere means it is now, in effect, the South of England Fly Casting Club.

    Thanks for the reply.
That's a long way south for me although my sister in law lives in Shrewsbury so maybe we could time a visit to coincide with a BFCC meeting sometime.
I'll keep a look out for future events.

Angus is correct. In order to organise a meeting it needs someone local to volunteer to organise the venue and make sure people are going to turn up. There used to be a Scottish event but at the last one there were more people from southern England in attendance than from north of the border. Fly casting as a sport is always going to be a very 'niche' activity and events are run where there's the most interest. The UK fly casting sport organisation runs events in Cumbria, there's a mix of southern and northern based casters that go there to cast.

At the last BFCC meeting in Kent there was a somewhat international entry. Bart de Zwaan (from Holland) extended his BFCC #5 record to 138ft 3in, Keiichiro Okamoto (who casts for the Japanese team at the world championships) took the accuracy record (from me ) and Tracy Thomas (Wales) extended her women's #7 record to 128ft 2in.

And the 2016 Nobel prize for physics goes to J.R. Hartley, who'd have thought a fly fisherman could re-write so many accepted laws Hidden Content

It was a good day as usual James. Glad Roger was on hand to sort my casting, out I thanked him many times when I was on the Test yesterday evening.

Thanks Roger, glad you had a good day at the Kent meeting.

James is correct that we need a local person to help support running our BFCC meetings around the UK. Currently we are in discussion with someone to run a Meeting in Yorkshire in September.

The next BFCC Meeting is in three weeks in Oswestry Rugby Club, Shropshire - Saturday 22nd June 2019.

More information on the BFCC activities can be found at Calendar | BFCC - Home Of Uk Fly Casting
