Try maybe using the Peter Mackenzie Philps thought for the initial lift......it's like answering a ringing landline telephone.

No. Don't 'rip it'. Forget 'power' and 'speed' and concentrate on moving the rod just a little bit quicker (a gradual, progressive and continual acceleration, but still not FAST) through the stroke. It might be an idea to go back a few steps and try this simple exercise. Make a side cast backwards, let the line fall to the ground, then pause. Now make a forward cast, concentrating on that gradual, smooth acceleration and a crisp stop. Again, let the line fall to the ground, pause and repeat. Once you have that instilled in your muscle memory, then do it without the pauses, keeping the line in the air. When you can do this easily in the horizontal plane, raise the whole process to the vertical and you should find you are producing smooth, efficient casts.
