Default Getting the Mrs casting properly....

My wonderful partner in life has started to take an interest in fly fishing. She refuses to use a casting instructor, insisting it has to be me that shows her the ropes... she's starting to get a haphazard line of about 3 rod lengths, but I can't get her to stop in the right place on the back-cast. This obviously results in a sloppy delivery in front of her and any fish flee for their livesGetting the Mrs casting properly....
Any tricks I can use to put her on the right tracks? (More for my sanity than hers)

One trick could be to tell her to try and cast the back cast straight up to the sky. It won't go there but it might just go in the right direction!

And also you could watch and study these Introduction – Fly Casting Video Masterclass and get her doing some of the first exercises, especially the "triangle method" and the "circles eights and straights".
    Good luck!

Rich...Tell her shes got to make your dinner and get the hoovering done..

My Mrs is the same, she drops the backcast too low and goes into the forward cast to soon.So her wrist gets sore or she has to go to the toilet or its too cold....She did catch four rainbows one day though ,all by herself...on dries.I was chuffed to bits..

Put the butt extension on the rod(if it has one) and put the extension up her sleeve, or try a bit of bondage, use a loop of material to act as a type of sleeve to keep the rod butt closer to her arm, it will stop the wrist break until she gets the idea fixed in her head. I used to use an adjustable, short strap/belt for teaching beginners, made from an old dog lead and it's still in my tackle bag. There is just such a thing in the new Garry Evans Catalogue, page 57, Airflo cast aid wrist support, costs a tenner but I'm sure you could improvise something just as effective.
