    Hi George,

The simple answer is no, sitting in a boat puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to ultimate distance.
Whether it makes much of a difference at more practical 'fishing' distances is a more subjective matter.

    Cheers, James.
And the 2016 Nobel prize for physics goes to J.R. Hartley, who'd have thought a fly fisherman could re-write so many accepted laws Hidden Content

You'll always be able to cast further standing as your body movement plays a part in the cast.
That said I don't find the need to stand up to cast in fact I don't like it it's unnecessary imo, I'm far from an expert but can comfortably cast 60/65ft from a seated position, I've found when casting any further fish tend not to hook up as well.

Surely rather than cast further you could just move the boat??

Ohanzee I didn’t say I wanted to cast further I was just curios to know if you should be able cast the same distance

If you are sitting down the fish will be closer so it is all a bit theoretical.

Being lower shortens the amount of line you can keep up in the air, bit like wading deep, the line is closer to the water and takes a shorter time to drop, but I'd imagine the bigger problem would be rocking the boat on longer casts.
