Default Rod Rings when using braid.

I am going to have a foray into spinning for pike over the next few months.
Now here's the thing my good old Vortex Spinning Rod does not have ceramic rings. Am I right in assuming that braid will groove the rings in double quick time?

Thanks
Graham

Having only ceramics on my spinning rods I can't comment but what I would mention is to check all rings after every trip for any sign of damage, a cracked ring cost me the bass of a lifetime when the braid sheared clean off leaving me red faced and a huge bass trailing yards of 20lb braid and a mouth full of Abu jointed plug.

Vortex rods were badly made with cheap fittings. I sold a lot and repaired most of them. Braid will groove the rod rings very quickly. I gave my Vortex Carp rod to my Grandson after replacing the rings, I think the new rings cost more than the rod! Ted Barlow was a lovely chap but his rods were made to a price.

To be honest I have owned it since 1975 along and it is lovely condition and when I used to Fish the Dorset Stour I landed some lovely pike on it. It was only because I thought I would have a try at the Pike this year that I got it out. I don't think I have used it since the mid 80's. Looks like I'll have to go down the Mono or Flurocarbon route.

You can get a half decent new spinning rod for not much more than 30....

If you really do want to use your old rod stick to nylon rather than braid
