The Sunburst works quite well in these waters (very few of the non-competitive anglers in North America use them).

It would be great to see a few teams from the U.K at next year's North American Loch-Style Fly Fishing Championships - especially since you guys invented this technique (most North Americans either troll or anchor when fishing on stillwaters).

This is most likely one of the least expensive 3 day, 15 hour, international competitions that you're going to find. This is also your chance to visit Canada and fish Tunkwa Lake, which is one of the most famous stillwaters in British Columbia (was used as a venue for the 1993 World Fly Fishing Champions).

Here's a rough break-down of the expenses - based on 5 sharing and 6 days in Canada (Canadian Dollars):
Entry Fees: $225.00 (6 meals included in entry fees)
Meet & Greet and Banquet Meals: $30.00
Flight: $600 per person (London to Vancouver)
    Mini-Van Rental: $125.00 per person
Fuel: $40.00 per person (2-1/2 hour drive from Bellingham )
Accomodations: $100.00 per person (cabin for 5 on Tunkwa Lake)
    Meals/groceries: $100.00 per person.
Approximate costs per person= $1200.00 (Canadian Dollars)

There are some other absolutely incredible lakes in this particualr area that are well worth adding a few extra days onto the end of your trip...

Loving this; had no idea there was such a competition. Keep up posted!!! fly in will be to 'Couver, how far a drive from there to the lake?

Not sure of this one: "Fuel: $40.00 per person (2-1/2 hour drive from Bellingham." That's Washington State, no need/use to be there if you fly into Van? Well, the Duty Free store for 'adult refreshments.' but you'll spend more on Petrol than the trip is worth.

Present exchange rate (US to Canada) is just about dollar for dollar. On a day to day basis, a penny or two.

Thanks fredaevans! It's about a 3 hour drive from Vancouver, and takes you through some of the most amazing countryside and mountains that you could ever imagine.

The two venues provide some pretty spectacular fishing opportunities. Tunkwa Lake, as some of you might remember, was one of the venues that was used for the 1993 WFFC when it came to Canada. This lake is ideally suited for loch-style fishing and holds large populations of fish and produces a few rainbows over 10 pounds every season, with 3-6 pounders being more common as big fish. This venue will be fished as a "single fly" for one session of the competition.

The Trojan Pond has a very large population of hard fighting rainbows that can naturally reproduce in the feeder streams that flow into this lake. This venue is privately owner (by the Highland Valley Copper Mine), so competitors will be allowed to use up to 3 flies for the 4 sessions that will be held on this venue.

I hope to see a few teams from your side of The Pond making their way over to this year's or next year's championship. We're a friendly bunch and would be glad help to accommodate and assist your teams or individual competitors in any way possible!

    Cheers,
    Todd

Todd, can you do a Google map (some such) to show us where the lake is located?

Here's a link to a Google satellite map of the area. You can simply zoom out to see it in relationship to Vancouver and other cities, and zoom in to see the lake itself. Tunkwa Lake Resort is where most of the teams are staying (they have cabins for rent), but there are also 2 inexpensive hotels in the nearby town of Logan Lake...
