Default Water Boreholes on shallow lakes

    Hi,
I am interested if anyone has experience on water boreholes, has your club water currently using one, are they expensive, do they cool the water in shallow lakes, what process does one have to follow and are they worth installing?
    Thanks in advance.

In the first instance you will need a geological survey carried out of the site to find out about the bedrock and if there is an aquifer. If there is then a test borehole must be made to ascertain the depth and the required pumping head for the purpose. An electrical borehole pump is needed so an electrical supply will have to be installed, either by mains cable or petrol/diesel generator. Once this has been established you will need an abstraction licence from the EA to pump the water. I think you can pump up to 7 cubic metres a day without a licence. It is not a cheap form of water supply, but in some cases where there is no natural supply it is the only way. Pump costs vary depending on the volume of water you want to pump per hour and generator costs vary depending on how many kVA you need.
The total cost of survey and drilling could run to 10,000 and then you have your running costs.
