Re: Severe Lice Damage to Wild Salmon - Photos.
I've been discussing with people from IFI two weeks ago, while at Aasleagh... Problem is known but other trouble is that the fisheries are depending from Environment Agency and the one who is giving the authorization for open sea salmon cages is the Agriculture Minister. That last having more weight than the other...

'Landward' will be running an episode called 'Saving Our Salmon' on BBC2 Scotland, 9 pm, Tues 16th Oct (or iPlayer afterward for the rest of the country). Hopefully it'll be more challenging to the farms than 'The One Show' was.

Re: Severe Lice Damage to Wild Salmon - Photos.
Thank you James. Putting this together with your photos of sealice-damaged seatrout in the Morsgail estuary earlier this year, it looks as though the whole of the Roag catchment must have been very badly infested. We were staying at Miavaig in early September when they were unloading a lot of dead farmed salmon from the cages. I see from the Grimersta website that they had a poor season again for seatrout, but they didn't mention the condition of the fish that they did catch. I bet they weren't a pretty sight. I presume that their salmon numbers held up because there was still enough fresh water for them to enter the system and shed their lice. Keep up the good work (and here's hoping that the Estates and angling syndicates members pile on the pressure too). Johnny
