My (ex)wife is Cuban and I spent 12 years looking for bonefishing accessible to Havana. La Salinas is the only option that I know.

Mike Mireki may not fish but he has certainly been to La Salinas and he had/has booking rights to the old La Salinas fishing - not to be confused with the new live aboard Avalon operation.

My first trip to Cuba 15 years or so ago was arranged by Mike Mireki. I've had no contact with him since then. Whilst I know various people, I suspect Mike may be the best person to arrange a day trip or a few days at La Salinas, it would certainly be the simplest. He would charge for his services, but that would avoid being ripped off if arranging everything yourself, and avoid risks.

the last time I was in las Salinas was 2016 and mike mirekis name came up in conversation with 2 other fisherman.
what I was told by the two of them is not something I would broadcast on an open forum because I do not know it to be true.
maybe someone should contact him but I certainly won't be.
as for booking fishing directly I completely disagree.
Avalon nearly always have slots available at some of there destinations.
I fished a whole week at cayo cruz 2 years ago single angler and accommodation 2700 euros.
isla de juventud same deal but no accommodation 2400 us 6 days.
my wife is Cuban she worked at reception at 2 hotels I cayo Guillermo for 16 years.
that's how I know there are 2 prices...for Cuban and people from out, as they call it.
if a taxi driver knows your a fisherman hes going to try and sting you.
when they know your paying maybe 400 cuc for a days fishing!!
got charged 20 cuc for a 6 mile journey to the marina in cayo santa maria my guide ulyse had words with him at the end of the first day, its 10cuc.
my own fault for not checking with hotel reception before I left..wifey just laughed "when they see a man with fishing rods and your going to the marina the driver is going to shaft you"
anyway good luck to the op with mike mireki.
lets hope the transportation doesn't break down half way through the forest in the national park. make sure you got plenty of deet.

Arranging direct in cuba I used to book la salinas for considerably less than market rates , but I knew these people. When I first went to la salinas there was another guy there also arranged by Mireki who had a taxidriver from havana staying with him full board for the entire week for about the same price as I paid for car hire and petrol.

If I were in Cuba I expect I'd be able to get that arranged but an estranero off the street could never do that.
If the op has a day or two only then he needs to get to Jaguey Grande before 7.30 am and then return to Havana after dark the same (1 days fishing) or next (2 days fishing) day . In those circumstances I reckon Mireki is the best bet to fix fishing, transport and a possible overnight stay.

Note - its great watching the dawn break as you're driving east on the autopista!

so why are you recommending mireki.
has anyone sent an enquiry to him,
the company that ran the fishing was enridean but that has probably changed.
I think Avalon have the rights.if it hadn't been for trump it was going to be orvis.

as for watching the the dawn break on the autopista… ive always been to busy looking at the road looking for pot holes....yes on the Cuban m1..... and avoiding those guys in funny hats and wellington boots wandering out in front of me holding blocks of cheese or strings of onions!

An aside, but if you have the time take a walk along El Malecon and watch or chat with the fishermen. I met one who sometimes 'bodyboarded' on a wooden palate to get out to bigger fish in the bay! Not what you're asking for, I know, but fish-related Havana fun anyway and a good walk on a fine day.
