    Default Verdon (france) info please

Going out in a few weeks staying near Castellane.

Is there any info please as stuff on the web is pretty thin?

Anyone live locally who may want to hook up?

    Or even a good guide?

    Cheers and thanks

Please excuse my ignorance; is this the area of Northern France with Chalk streams? If it is, Jeremy Lucas was doing some organised trips there a number of years back. Stick his name into a search and see what comes up.
Like all theses guides/pro-fishermen, he is one heck of an angler.
    Good luck,
    Del

Suggest you try googling "Castellane peche truite" , there's a lot of stuff.

If you're not up to speed with French then Google Translate will help with the detail and although it's not 100% you get the gist of it.
Some nifty truites in the area -

Hope this might inform...the Verdon near Castellane is a cracking stream
Don't expect big fish, the French tend to kill...and don't expect too many fish, for the same reason
But they are there and will take dries all day long in the sunshine.
If you want to know more, please contact me...consider fishing in the gorge below Point Sublime...I have caught many there

Should get in contact with fishing guides, like :
    https://www.riviera-fly-fishing.com/
Accueil Christophe Pironnie, Guide de pêche dans le Verdon

Some incredible big trout coming from the lake of "Ste Croix" (up to 10 kg), but fly fishing isn't the most appropriate method for them.
You could also spend a day on lake d'Allos around 40km far from Castellane (biggest mountain lake of europe, many trout rising with a soft wind) with your family walking around the lake (plenty of marmots), the surroundings are fabulous, but many tourists in summer. A day or a week ticket isn't expensive.

I have fished there. Get a fishing permit in Castallane I think its about 30 Euros for 2 weeks. I stayed at one of the campings there and fished after 5 pm and fished upstream. If you want more info then pm me.

For the permit go here (as always in France):
Accueil - Cartedepeche.fr - Federation Nationale de la Peche en France

Then about the Verdon itself, it is hugely submitted to some detrimental factors:
    - water levels which are controlled by the hydro dams upstream; google it, you will probably find some info as it is supposed to be planned and made public a couple of days in advance; careful!! level will rise very fast and it can be very dangerous.
    - in summer, river is overcrowded with canoes and people bathing... really! and even anglers...
    - problem with mountain thunderstorms that make the level rise fast and make the water murky in a few tens of minutes... but this can be magic.

Apart from this, there are plenty trout, some can grow big, but like all French fish they are well educated. You also have these huge specimen running from the downstream Lac de Ste Croix which use to feed on bleaks. Why not trying a large streamer close to the bottom in deep pools. Who knows?
