Default Day out in the North Pennines

    Evening All

I'll be up in the North Pennines at the end of June for a short holiday. I've managed to convince the girlfriend to allow me a day off to go fly fishing.

Do any locals have any recommendations? We'll be based in Stanhope so ideally on the eastern edge of the North Pennines would be ideal. So far all I've found online is the Bishop Auckland waters, but more options would be great if possible.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

You have Knitsley Mill ,Sharpley Waters and Langley Dam my preference for a good day would be Langley Dam.

Not a local, but had a great few days on the Upper Tees 3 years ago (or is it 4?) and you're not too far away at all to fish around Middleton on a Raby Estate Day ticket. Miles and miles of the Tees with low angling pressure and lots of wonderful wild brownies; brilliant fishing. Apologies for repeating myself, but had a great day on the same ticket at Widdybank Farm, just down from Cow Green Ressie. Chock full of small wild BT.

The Tees guys will be along I'm sure with more advice.

I'm catching a train to Darlington in a few weeks time to hopefully repeat the trip, or at least, parts of it, with a pal of mine who's picking me up from the station; can't wait.

    Good luck,
    Del (St Albans)

Thanks guys, all seem very good options! Going to look into them all now. Like the idea of low pressure water and plenty of mileage to explore.

Will get researching into all options mentioned. Hoping this rain might have subsided by then!

Bishop Auckland have a lot of good water to fish.

There is also a club that has water in Stanhope area (westgate, eastgate) that do day tickets but can't remember what it's called, it will be on the net somewhere, good water it is too.

Just found club, it's weardale fly fishers, you get day tickets at the newsagents in Stanhope.

Check with the local butcher in Stanhope he is the club secretary.
When exactly are you coming and I will let you know about the river state as we have a static on it's bank ?

I will second Noels response above , Langley Dam would be my choice as well .
Beautiful location , tidy well presented fishery , bank or boat with some of the essential tackle available on site should it be needed.

Also don't forget that derwent reservoir does day tickets as well. Where and when are staying in Stanhope as it's my home town, but I am just new to this fly-fishing thing.
There are also the Tees dale reservoirs of grassholm, hurry selset & cow green for stockiest and wild browns. Only 9 / day c/r for the brownies

Could meet up for a pint if you like.

All great suggestions, thank you everyone! This forum is a treasure trove I have to say. I think, given I only have the morning I'll try and grab a day ticket on the Weardale Fly Fishers waters.

Noel - I will be up from the 25th and likely fishing on the 27th. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Country_est - unfortunately I've only got the morning and so wouldn't be able to make a pint, thanks for the offer though! Let me know if you're ever down around Cambridge and we can go for fishing at Grafham / a pint after.

    Thanks,
