Thread: Isla Holbox Mexico

I normally stay at the Melia Cayo Coco with my non fishing wife and fish with Dunni, Alex etc. But With Cayo Coco no longer an option (at least not yet) I have been looking at alternatives for decent size Tarpon plus the usual bonefish and maybe Permit. I have been to Mexico (Tulum, Boca Pailla etc) before but not Isla Holbox which appears to get some pretty large Tarpon migrating through. I was hoping someone on the Forum might have been there and could share some experience on where to go,where to stay, who to fish with etc.

It's very simple just get in touch with Mr Sandflea - Holbox Tarpon Club, beware there are others who try to hijack traffic to him. You can stay pretty much anywhere on the ocean side of Holbox, the guides will pick you up from the beach outside your hotel.

Typically the day starts at dawn and you go hunting tarpon in the ocean - if nothing shows within a couple of hours or so or conditions are bad then you head for the backcountry for babies and snook.

Thank you OC sounds great any recommendation on hotel - is there any where like the Melia cayo coco

There are no big restort type hotels in Holbox. Holbox isn't a built resort like Cancun or those in Cuba. Just get one on the beach. You can trust Sandflea to recommend if you can't decide for yourself.

Have not been for many years but was great fishing and more or less as described in previous post.Might well not be ideal for non fishing contingent.
