    Default Tanfield Lodge

Tanfield Lodge Lake sits in the alluvial plain of the river Ure at a point were a number of springs from the underlying limestone come to light through the gravel overburden. This glacial gravel deposit was extracted throughout the 60s and 70s and the Lake was created as part of the final landscape restoration.

In the early 1980s the decision was made to operate the lake as a day fishery for trout on fly, and from the idea’s inception it was soon apparent that it suited both the trout and the anglers. The ethos of the fishery has always been for sport angling and to keep the price affordable, we do not therefore tend to stock with large fish, but prefer to keep a good head of fish in the 2-3lb range in the lake, which quickly acclimatise to the water and can offer more natural sport.

We hope you enjoy your fishing time with us.

    What a place this is
i,m desperate to get back but my mates don,t like fishing here as they like the big fish waters
last time here i had 33 on buzzer and cdc shuttlecock, fish are in the 1.5-3lb range but go better than fish 3 times that in other waters
naturals are the way forward on here
There,s also the tanfield barbel which is massive, got a shock when i seen it cruising behind me.the water is crystal clear too

Fished on Sunday with my mates 8 fish between us mostly on a cats set at 7' depth under an indicator. On a side note Andyice witnessed the after effects of 3 so called anglers .... topped and tailed gutted fish and threw the waste into the lake no wonder it's full of crayfish.

Just returned from a night at what must be the best value for money trout water anywhere. Black buzzers and black diawls doing the damage. £8 for an evening ticket for 2 fish, cracking nights sport had over twenty between us.
