Default Re: Fernworthy Reservoir, Devon

Had an amaizing day here yesterday. Weather was miserable, wet and windy from the northwest most of the morning. I fished nymphs most of the morning with no success, my mate had 2 on a clan chief on the 200 yards before the dam. I had seen 3 all morning rise, so i thought sod it and stuck on a g&h sedge on the point followed by 2 hoppers 1 green and 1brown. Fifth cast and whack a brown of 10oz jumped clear of the water to take the g&h near to the dam.
After a bite to eat we headed over the other side of the dam. Easier casting room but a bit tricky with the wind coming over your right shoulder, but what a great decision it was. We cast then took 2 steps all the way from the first bay all the way back too the dam. I took 9 off the top on all three flies, each fish taking the fly by either leaving the water or snatching the rod out my hand. My mate stuck with the classic wets and took 6, missing a few with plucky takes. The fish were all between 10oz and 12oz a mixture of stocked and wild browns bar 1 which was just over the pound and wild as hell.
On the way back to the car we decided to have a chuck were we had fish on the dam bank just past the fishing hut for a while and we took another each before we called it a day.
For 13 for the day and 4 takeable fish then catch and release its an awsome wild wind swept reservoir with some magnificient fish in it.
Next year could see me visit here more, shame it aint a bit closer lol
