I was planning on putting some wee dry flies on this year rather than stocking the book box! I’ll beat it in mind though as I’ve a few others too.

Any idea on dates yet?

yes invictas( silver) are good imitations of fry or can be used for sedges also
and claret is good for claret duns

It depends very much on the river, on most lochs anything hatching off the water is a deer hair emerger, but on rivers with specific hatches it can be critical, you know its critical when you triumphantly blank with aforesaid advice

Same as the Iron Blue story, fishing off a point with an isolated prolific hatch going on, big pale olives were floating in and easy spotted but similar olive emerger patterns were being enthusiastically ignored, it took someone else to spot it, there was another hatch of smaller darker olivey things about 10' further out where the action was, I put on a smaller darker fly and it was gone as soon as it hit the water, you just know when you get it right, I think the trick is to have the confidence to be decisive when your not.
