    Hard, tend to hinge and cut into the line where it enters the connector allowing ingress of water. Not a big problem if you replace them regularly, but then a loop doesn't need replacement as often.

    As I use one of MrT’s furled leaders I just use a Castwell’s knot to connect the fly line to the leader and then a perfection knot to attach tippet. I would not use this knot with a tapered leader to a modern fly line as it will cut into the coating but if you’re using silk (I am) then you could tie the leader directly to the line. Harder you pull the tighter it gets!

    Company named Stonfo make these connectors.Originals came from Masterline back in the '70's.Stonfo also make knot covers.
