Evening I was invited to attend by NHS who are putting some of their specialist services under the microscope and suggesting improvements. I was invited today on day four of six.. Last week they did three days at Blackburn Rovers hospitality suite today it was at Pleasington Golf Club. 36 people attended and were divided into five teams. I sat there hardly able to contribute as most of the discussions were in Chinese or they might well have been. Lunch consisted of quarter size sandwiches and nothing else. Even the fillings were basic. Apparently the NHS won't pay for a proper lunch or buffet for staff on workshops. About a dozen people brought their own food. I'd had enough by lunch time so gave my apologizes and left.

In the afternoon I decided to cheer myself up and went to Vue to watch 1917 WW1 film. Don't be tempted to go it was the most boring war film I have ever had the misfortune to watch. The only good thing was the special offer view any film for 4.99.

When I got home my key wouldn't go all the way in the lock. I went round the back and hit the same problem. The wife was in her car was outside. I rang her mobile and the house phone and no one answered. I'd visions of the wife on the floor injured. I rang my daughter and she came round. The house locks were all lock from the inside with the key left in. After banging for five minutes the wife appeared and unlocked the back door. She had been in the loft and locked the doors so no one could get in and surprise her. The loft ladder access has a safety panel to insert so you can work in the loft and not fall down the hole when working in the loft. She had been up there most of the day sorting out her clothes. What a scare.

    Morning all
Off to physio today missed keep fit yesterday. Today is more gentle exercise for Parkinsons sufferers. There are many different types of Parkinsons and some of the people that attend are in a far worse state than I. I used to be the fittest in the session but not now I'm classed as average ability and therefore deteriorated.

    Morning guys.
Damp and windy. Heavy downpour last night, lasted only 10 mins but I haven't seen rain like it for a long while. Emptied an overflow bucket yesterday afternoon, it was full again.
Good luck at physio Alban. I know all about NHS meetings, been to quite a few and some a full day. Some were fully catered for (depends on who attends and what the meetings about), others didn't even provide or cater for a drink.
I've had to tell Mrs face off for leaving key in door lock, by all means lock the door but at least allow us to be able to get in with the key.
Only one day to go Tom.

Off to visit dad again today. He has a cardiology appointment so may find out what if anything can be done for him. Got my morning call of " can you bring.......".

Wet but not too windy here but no fishing planned.
    Taxi duties for me tomorrow.

    He'd, is that me?
I'm interested in how Tom get's on with the car, especially mileage. When out and about in mine yesterday all mileage was done in electric mode, yet the petrol engine was on purely for heating purposes as it uses conventional heating. Tom's will be all electric so uses a different heating system. As with all cars, winter driving with lights and heating on effects mileage. Manufacturers mileage claims are always different to real time driving.

Just finished tying about a dozen flies I was short of, mostly lures. I also had about 20 flies tied during recent fly tying classes. I’ve just tried to put them away in my fly boxes. I discovered I have about 20 odd fly boxes, nearly all full, and most never opened. I usually have about 8 boxes on me when I go fishing, most of which are also never opened.

Thinking about my fishing, I mostly use :-
    Lures:- mostly just 3 patterns.
    Squirmy wormys
    Nymphs:- just 2/3 patterns
    Buzzers:- 4 patterns
    Dry flies:- about 5/6 patterns

For grayling:- about 4 patterns duplicated on jig hooks
    Salmon fishing:- about 6 patterns

The salmon and grayling flies are kept in separate bags from the rest, so for general trout fishing I’m only generally using under twenty patterns. Do I really need the hundreds of flies I have most never having seen the light of day gradually rotting away.

Should I buy a few new boxes and stock them with only freshly tied flies I actually use? As my tying skills have greatly increased over the years, and although they still catch I’m now generally embarrassed by my early efforts. Also most of the flies I tie in the lessons are of types I’ll probably never use so what do I do with them all.

    Far too many flies Earl.
I keep trying to cut back, then ........................... ! I know what flies work for me and stick to those (on the whole) but you just may need ......... ? My last tying projects have been filling a new box with only the patterns I catch with done in different sizes. So only need the one box (in theory but not in practice ), but just in case ....... I take a second with different pattern in. This for river fishing, stillwater I take all my stillwater boxes.
When it comes to fly tying, it's not necessarily the pattern but the technique that a pattern involves.
