Unfortunately the adds are what pays for the magazine

do like a read of the T S + fly fishing fly tying magazine even with the adds ( but think fly tying magazine has lost its way over the last 6/8 months as just the same articles each month

T S have changed the mag a bit

for all the other mag,s that have no adds you pay the higher price as ones above but £8 /9 is just silly money, Just my thinking

Magazines are obviously expensive to produce. I don't mind ads, I just don't want to read the risible product placement in articles.

I'm inclined to support Fallon's Angler even though I think there is too much indifferent work published in it (I wrote about it on my blog if anyone's interested). The US mag, The Drake I've not seen, though from its website it appears to go in for short snappy writing the Americans like. Gray's Sporting I've seen a couple of and it's not bad. The UK fly mags I rarely buy now. Coarse and sea are the worst of the lot.

Years ago I subscribed to Outdoor Life and Field & Stream which were very good but the habit of printing the second half of most articles at the back of the mag wound me up.
“There is no more lovely country than Monmouthshire in early spring. Nowhere do the larks sing quite so passionately, as if somehow inspired by the Welsh themselves. There is a blackbird on every thorn and a cock chaffinch, a twink as they call him there, on every bush...... It moved me profoundly. I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

The 2 I get are brought as xmas presents (subscription ) as the family never know what to buy me ( how many prs socks and pants do you need )

They all have adds for one reason to get us to buy more

never know when they review rods and reels why they all have to start at
    £ 400 +

think trout fisherman is the worse of the bunch

I did discover the reason for this a few years ago; I think American mags have a certain template designed to give ads optimal prominence up front, and nothing must disturb it. If that means moving the latter section of features to the back of the mag, then so be it. I hate it myself but money talks.
