Subject: Dawnfresh potential new fish farms in the Firth of Clyde

You may be aware that Dawnfresh has submitted 4 separate screening and scoping applications for new finfish farms in the Firth of Clyde. The locations are:-
North Ayrshire Council:

• Great Cumbrae
• Little Cumbrae
Argyll & Bute Council:

• Hawk’s Nib Isle of Bute
• Ardentinny Bay
I am extremely concerned that these potential new sites are a threat to all salmon and sea trout fisheries in the Firth of Clyde because migration routes may pass very close to one or other of these sites. I understand from Ian Davies of North Ayrshire that they are requiring the developer to submit an Environmental Impact Assessment and I would predict that Argyll and Bute will do the same. I would recommend that you note your interest with both councils on behalf of your fishery and your concern regarding potential impact on migrating salmon. If Dawnfresh does proceed with a full application for these sites then we will need to fight them with all our strength. Contacts are as follows:
A&B Council responsible officer Sandra Davies e-mail: planning.bandc@argyll-bute.gov.uk
North Ayrshire responsible officer Ian Davies e-mail: eplanning@n-ayrshire.gov.uk
I would be grateful if you would let me know if your fishery intends to actively object to these potential applications.
