Right, worked it out. I have had to switch from photobucket to imgur.

Any way, back to the fishing......

Yesterday I took the kids to the park. En route we walk along side a small stream, small enough for the local kids to jump over on the way home from school.

It's exactly the sort of place that you get told "there's no fish in there", but it actually holds a decent head of Dace and a few Perch.

Where we cross the footbridge there is also a small weir and a little pool beneath it. Its all concrete, and probably the least natural part of the whole stream, but it's also the deepest (3 or 4 ft max) and this is where the Perch congregate.

As all the Perch are in one spot, competition for food is high, a Hares Ear nymph dropped in the pool and jigged about almost guarantees a take.

Yesterday I (with my assistant) caught two in five minutes.

To be honest, this is more like drop shotting than fly fishing, but it's a great way to get my lads in to fishing.

I wholeheartedly agree, it's important to keep children interested and that sounds like just the spot where your assistant can have chance of a few fish and get hooked so to speak

Hi Mart

Those are some impressive fish, and flies. I thought the grasshopper was real at first.

I'm a bit of a 'quantity not quality' kind of an angler, but your photos (they have only just started showing on my phone) have inspired me to try for a few bigger ones.

I tend to target whatever is in front of me be it a 3oz dace or a 3lb chub although I do enjoy a good bagging session.

Went out yesterday started off trotting hemp and casters but after only 4 bites all morning sacked it off and went to recce a club stretch of river I'd never fished, loads of dace rising so back to the car with the bait gear and back with the #3 managed to catch chub, dace and perch

Spotted a barbel but alas I was out of time and needed to get gone on the school run
