    Default Disgusted by Scierra lifetime guarantee

    I am absolutely livid by how I have been treated by them at the options made available. I bought a HM3 back in 2006 and paid 250.00 for the rod and it was a pleasure and one of the big selling points was that it came with an unconditional lifetime guarantee. On the weekend the top section went when casting a di7 and although unhappy I thought it would simply be a case of taking it down to Svendsen sports in Cardiff.

    After being batted back and forth from where I purchased the rod from directly to Scierra, I explained the situation. However my options are shocking.

    Well we dont make that rod anymore so can't replace the section, fair enough I thought, even though it is a lifetime guarantee it covers wear and tear so your not covered. We will sell you another rod at a discount price?!?! The option on the rod was the cheaper model, despite stating that it was broken in use they basically said it is not covered so buy another one.

    Has anyone else come across this with them or have any advise? I always supported them but after this I will never purchase another item or recommend them to anyone else again.

    Been there mate.

    Some years ago I purchased a Sierra Aquatex bib & brace. They leaked like a sieve after a couple of outings. I contacted Svendsen a couple of times to explain the situation but they just didn't want to know. Fortunately for me, the good people at Sportfish where I had bought these gave me a full credit on returning the offending item.

    I'll never buy anything by Scierra again. They can shove their crap products and even crappier customer service right up their arse!

    Hi Welshlynx

    Scierra are not alone in their appaling treatment of customers who have a life time guarantee Greys are just the same. Many of their rods have been declared obsolete and therefore spares are no longer available. It's a good job the motor industry don't take this attitude when a car model is a few years old.

    Hi, I had the same problem as Mies. Poorly contructed Bib & Brace which came apart on the leg and crutch seams. The taping just came away.

    I spoke to Scierra - Svendsen Sport and was told to contact the supplier. Because they were more than two years old I had no leg to stand on and repaired them myself.

    I'll never buy Scierra or their associated products again.

    He is no longer associated with them, on a seperate note the company I purchased the rod from no longer even shows their returns policy or stocks any of their rods.

    I somehow don't think this is a concidence, when I rang them I spoke to a person very well known on the competiton circuit, needless to say he was far from empathathetic.

    Sorry to hear of the RUBBISH cutsomer service makes me sooo annoyed to hear that. Just to say from my experience of breakages of which there've been a few the last two years i have had superb customer service from fishtec who have offered a replacement for a discontinued rod with like for like or a great offer on a top rod that i would never have been able to afford. i have sent this back twice as two freak breaks caused by me in 2 months but honoured all the way. I have also had great sevice with greys again on a discountinued rod. Just a thought if they are not going to honour a replacement might be worth taking your custom else where. hope you get it sorted In terms of HW he is now with diawa i believe? so a letter may not help there, maybe thats why he left

    agreed Kenster, I did originally buy the rod from fishtec, however due to the amount of time they put me straight in contact with scierra. I only noticed the other day they no longer stock any scierra rods. I will purchase their brand products from now on as they have been pretty good in the past and watch scierra slowly dissapear.

    Quite frankly I am surprised that anyone with any degree of intelligence is taken in by these so called lifetime warranties all of the ones I have come across come with the tag of an administration fee which is more than enough to cover the cost to the company the price of the broken section so effectively you are simply buying a replacement section! some warranty!
    Like so many of these insurance based warranties often sold with electrical good they are simply a con as the Sale of Goods Act if you wish to take the trouble to read the blessed thing states that not only must goods be of merchantable quality and be fit for the purpose is was bought for but that protection lasts for up to three years these companies simply rely on the fact that the bulk of the buying public are unaware of the rights they have enshrined in law

    Nah, that wasnt always so. I have historically had replacements for nowt less than the cost of handling.
