I like your variant (dead-centre pointing to 10o/clock) the wing is very dark

so need to buy yet more stuff - orange Cock hackle and Jungle jock

ho-hum Christmas is coming ........

This is a version I tie with a dubbed gold body, instead of the tinsel. Not quite as flashy.
Phil, the gold tinsel on yours is a great colour. Where did you get that from?Click the image to open in full size.

A Dunkeld trout fly (rather than the salmon fly version) without jungle cock is still a Dunkeld!

A Dunkeld without blue jay is not a Dunkeld!

Bumble54 what gold hooks do you use for your simplified version?

Keep it quiet in case they want to burn me at the stake as a heretic but I have a large stock of Drennan sweetcorn hooks that I bought many years ago, I use them for a number of patterns. I also have quite a few gold Sundridge specimen hooks left, that I use for tying muddlers, wing, beard hackle, head, I sometimes add an under wing to match the beard hackle.
No idea what the modern equivalent hooks are available these days.
I'm completely out of silver hooks that I used for butchers but I'll keep an eye out for some.
