Thanks Alwyn yes I have meddled in that area but it's not easy getting the lighting and focus right and other little niggles that pop up. Unfortunately these things aren't like tying a ptn in 10 minutes and I think Davie McPhail has even had reservations about filming a fully dressed fly although he has done the Durham Ranger very well indeed. I recently submitted a Green Highlander SBS for the Fly Dressers Guild which has just come out in the winter edition of Fly Dresser which although not a close detailed breakdown, it gives some idea of the processes involved. You'd have to join the Guild to get a copy though unfortunately. What I need is Steven Spielberg.

    Things of beauty. Thank you.
Fishing is sometimes the best way to cast aside life's stresses. Sometimes it's simply the cause.

Thanks Jimmy. Built wings are the hardest wings of all to do in fully dressed salmon flies. The flies above are married wing and mixed wing flies which are fairly straightforward once you get the hang of them. But a built wing is where you build the wing up in sections actually on the fly and is very hard to achieve to get looking right especially on smaller flies. Hale's 'How to tie salmon flies' shows the process pretty much for anyone interested. Also Pryce-Tannatts 'How to dress salmon flies' and Kelson's 'The salmon fly' and 'Tips' are useful if you want to understand traditional methods of dressing these flies. Some useful links here where you can download the various books. https://nwflytyer.wordpress.com/classic-books/
