Default Black midge emerger

Hook: TMC 100BL #14-18
Trailing shuck: Four or five bronze mallard flank fibres
Body: Pheasant tail (dyed black)
Wing: Krinkle mirror flash
Hackle: Black cock
Thread: Danville 6/0

An adaptation of an A.K. Best midge pattern that, being black, would likely make a decent dry fly for wild browns on UK rivers and lochs, i.e. I've not tried it but it has all the characteristics of similar flies that I know work. A.K. uses Moose mane hairs for the body, not that common in these parts so pheasant tail substituted, and plastic freezer bag for the wing, substituted with some mirror flash.

Thanks for looking

Iain
