    Default Mucky Dubbing needle.

Not my idea, I saw it on the inter web years ago, but it works really well.
I use my dubbing needle every time to apply a drop of varnish to the knot and it just builds up with dry varnish, but by putting some steel wool inside an old film canister and placing your needle in it each time it comes out clean as a whistle.
    Wish I’d done it sooner.

Film canister? Will it work with an old SD card?

Good tip, I believe one of the manufacturers sell a metal pot just like this to hold a needle for about £30

I wonder if a block of that stuff they push flower arrangements into would not also work?

It might, but I think it would stick to the needle?

Yes, but not so many times and you'll break a few needles unless you're careful. #youstarteditohnoIdidntohyesyoudid

    just as fast

Poor quality materials and tools are destined to discourage beginner tiers and cause greater expense when the time comes to replace them.

You carry on then with your knife, I prefer to just put my needle in the pot and pull it out ready.
    It was just a suggestion.
