Default Silver Doctor plus Green Highlander Brooch.

Another Silver Doctor on a larger hook (size 6/0) this time and a mate of mine who's a local Ghillie wanted a Green Highlander tied on a fly brooch. These brooches (size 1/0) are really difficult to tie on as the pin at the back sticks out at about 30 degree from the shank and there's a clasp near the eye and the eye itself is quite a bulky up-eye which makes winging difficult. I had to bend the pin slightly more out the way being careful I didn't snap the thing off but it still made things awkward when wrapping floss etc. Much prefer the SD with a body hackle as I'm not torn on flies without them so this version from Walbran made a nice change.

    Thanks for looking.

    cheers

    Very nice as usual Mark.
I prefer the top one, Silver doctor. Only because you can fish with it.
Are you going into full production of the broaches to fund more salmon tying materials?
I have a wife and daughter. I'm always wrong and outnumbered. Hidden Content

Thanks Ged. I had to laugh at that, this may be the only salmon fly brooch I ever produce as it really is very awkward to tie on them and especially fully dressed or maybe just in my underpants occasionally. That said if they could produce them a bit more user friendly and in numerous sizes it could be worth looking into as my tying budget is well in the red but at least I'm having fun....I think.

    Such skill.
Fishing is sometimes the best way to cast aside life's stresses. Sometimes it's simply the cause.

Thanks Richard still plenty to work at with these classics and skill in most forms takes work and I'll vouch for that.

I've just realised that I look at wingman's threads regardless of the fly. Just the fact he's tied it is enough.
Never thought of myself as a groupie before but I guess that's the truth of it.

Are you taking Christmas orders for the brooches Mark? If so I'd be happy to take half a dozen. Extremely well tied as is your standard.

Oh no it was never my intention to be the Jimmy Page of classic salmon fly tying Mind you I was thinking more Dwayne Eddie, I wonder if he had groupies Although I heard he broke more guitar strings than Page. Thanks James.

Thanks taffy1 I'll certainly let you know if I do but these brooches still need some modifications in order to make them easier to tie on and in larger sizes as well which would be more suited to classics. I'll say one thing you'll catch that pin only once.
