Totally agree with Ben. A layout format should be used and I think the one he has set up is spot on.
I have tried my best to keep to the original fly pattern as much as possible, but with some patterns over 150 years old, some minor mistakes can be made.
Stan suggested I was wrong with my Zulu, suggesting a wide silver rib. Who knows who is exactly right?
It is a minor issue, and as long as it is highlighted I think we can leave it to the individual tier to decide.
Think there should be a little vetting on the posts before they are sent into a "sticky section" though in-case there are any glaring mistakes.
I try to cross referance any patterns that I choose to ensure they are as correct as possible.
Think this is a great thread that Ben has started and I hope we can keep it going.

Never sure how broad to make the gold rib - I've seen some very broad but that does not "feel" right to me.

The format presented by the tiers is excellent, but there is one very salient piece of information missing. How to fish them. This vital piece of information to my mind is what can separate the tried and tested Classics from the many thousands of experimental flys presented on forums across the world.

This will become particulary important for anyone dealing with various styles of spiders and winged wets where the style has a massive impact on how they should be fished, upstream, downstream, dead drift, manipulated etc...

Whilst such info is readily available if one searches, it would be useful to have it here for any that are interested in tying and fishing the classics for the first time.

Yes its very hard to adopt a different technique to the one you always use but obviously weather conditions and the state of the river have a bearing also on how each fly is fished and how it appears to the fish.

North country angler (Matt) is going to cover another spider pattern on Sunday. Snipe and purple and a few variants /similair patterns. They will generally be of a dark/ black theme.
Just to give you all a wee chance to prepare anything you may like to add.
Later next week I intend to post a thread on the Bibio. Again if you have anything to add.
This section works best when we all contribute, so please, can we all get involved.
