Default White Rabbit Fish Head Fry Pattern

Hi Guys ok well this my 1st attempt at a step by step so if i dont put across the tying as well as you'd like plse tell me. I have fished this pattern for a number of years and found it works very well all year round but obviously at this time of year can be quite literally lethal. Fished on either a floating line and med to long leader twitched, static, figure of eight or stripped all can work it just depends on the conditions on the day and what "turns the trout on" ................. moving on i find this pattern is especially effective when you see the trout chasing and crashing into the fry on the surface - be carfeul of smash takes!!! Again also works well on most sinkers from slime to di-8 - my only advice though is to fish it on its own and make sure you use appropriatly strong leader 10lb+. If any of you tie this pattern plse let me know on this post or pm me as to how you get on with it.

    THE RABBIT FISH HEAD FRY

I guess 1 of the chief virtues of this fly is that it combines a bit of realism (the fishhead part) with a little bit of impressionism (the tail part) and so the combo of both makes it look and fish "real".

    HOOK - Daichi 2546 / Mustad M34007 SIZES 4-2/0
    THREAD - 6/0 DANVILLE'S WHITE / GUDEBROD GX2 WHITE
TAILPOST - SHORT WHITE BUCKTAIL - (OPTIONAL BUT I FIND IT HELPS TO PREVENT THE WING FROM FOULING)
TAIL WING - SHORT BUCKTAIL + A BIT OF FLASH E.G CRYSTAL HAIR OR FLASHABOU ETC
    TAIL - WHITE RABBIT STRIP
    BODY - WHITE BLOOD MARABOU
    FISHHEAD - 1/2" E-Z BODY BRAID
EYES - HOLOGRAPHIC NATURAL / RED / YELLOW (COLOUR TO SUIT)
    TYING DIFFICULTY - MEDIUM??

    STEP 1
Wrap front 1/3 of hook shank with lead wire (0.60mm) and then coat with glue - tie in thread behind the wire and wind to the rear stopping a little forward of the bend (when hanging, the thread should be in line with the hook point)

    STEP 2
Invert the hook and then tie in a short clump of white bucktail to stop the tailwing from snagging on the hook point

    STEP 3

Turn the hook right side up and tie in a tailwing of bucktail and then trim the excess and then tie in some strands of "flash" whatever you wish - im using crystal hair and flashabou in this instance. Then move a few turns forward and tie in the strip of white rabbit fur and trim off the excess.

    STEP 4

Take a plume of white blood marabou, tie in and wind forward using hackle pliers or your fingers! Then take a second plume of white blood marabou and then continue winding forward towards the eye. Trim off excess and then whip finish. Varnish the head.

    STEP 5

Take your E-Z BRAID and then cut approx 1/2" of the tubing and very lightly singe the ends of the tubing using a lighter or a match.- This is VERY IMPORTANT as it gives the braid strength and durability when it end's up in an angry trouts mouth!!!!

    STEP 6

Then slip the tubing over the eye and push it down the shank. IMPORTANT plse remember to bear in mind the "thread lines" that run along both sides of the tubing - Make sure they run parallel and then tie down the front section of tubing behind the eye and trim away the excess.

    STEP 7

Phew................almost there Form a neat thread head, whip finish and then varnish - then add eyes and colour the tubing as required (I coloured the thread lines in this instance with a red marker)

THE FINISHED ARTICLE - TIGHT LINES

Many thanks for sharing that with us Luke.

Will give that one a go for the pike in the next couple of months.
