    Default Sunburst Dabbler

Haven't tried this one yet but am hoping it might be good for the Sonaghan on Lough Melvin next year.

    1. Tie in a short tail of Globrite floss. Tie it down the shank to maintain an even body profile but stay well away from the eye.

    2. Add in an over-tail of dyed orange mallard.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    3. Catch in a strand of sunburst micro-straggle 'n' gold and form rear half of body. This stuff will hit the shops in the next few weeks and will be the material next season.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    4. Catch in the tip of a sunbust genetic cock saddle hackle.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    5. Dub on some dubbing and palmer the font half of the body with the hackle. Note the space left for the cloak - this is the key to getting a neat head.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    6. Take a bronze mallard feather, strip the **** from the base and stroke 15-20mm from the central section out from the stalk.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    7. Trim the section from the feather taking care to keep the end aligned. the angle of the cut doesn't matter as long as the ends stay level. Fold this section in half as you would a piece of paper.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    8. Cloak the fly with the bronze mallard using a pinch and loop to secure. This example shows a 180 degree cloak but you can do less or more depending on your preference. Trim the waste and form a small, neat head.

    Nice fly!

Where will I be able to get the sunburst micro-straggle n gold from?

Does Gerry sell sunburst genetic capes?

I fish the Corrib and think it may well get a good response there also.

The new micro straggle will be widely available soon. Brian 'Big Reel' Brown and another scottish supplier are bringing it out. There is a nice range of colours with either gold or silver mixed in.

Aside from Brian himself, I know that Jock Kettles will be stocking Brian's stuff and Ian Christie at Flybox will be stocking the other stuff - neither of them have it yet though.

Grasshopper - I'm not sure if Gerry stocks sunburst capes - I was given a really nice one but I have no idea where it originated from.
