Default Wickhams Spider ~ Step by Step

Here's some photographic step by step instructions for tying the Wingless Wickham's flies also known as the Wickham's Spider.

They are deadly on stillwaters especially the Hot Orange version. This is fast becoming my No1 wet fly for the season. Give them a try, you won't be dissapointed.

    Wickham's Spider ~ White

I have a black, olive, pink and also a grizzle version too, and will post these soon.

    Nice tyings, Pint.
I am looking forward to seeing your other versions. I was wondering if you used the Orange one on bright days, and whether you have used it without the goldbead, and if so, what results were you getting?

I use the hot orange version usually as the first wet fly of the day singurly or as a team of 3 different colours. If these don't produce then I start changing to other colours and eventually other flies. The hot orange version is very good when daphnia is about but the hot orange version has taken fish in almost all conditions not just bright days. Claret or dark versions seem to be best late at night when its getting near dusk.

I tie the natural and white versions without the bead and use these as dries in the smaller hook sizes, I also "gink up" a size 10 and pull it through waves on a windy day, takes are aggressive. Suppose these are similar to the Bi-Visible flies.

Try them with a marabou tail , a type of Woolly ****** ....

    Hi Pint,

Cheers for that, I will dress some of these, and let you know what results I get for browns and rainbows.
    Best wishes,
