    Default Duck's Dun

I believe this version is the Charles Jardine’s Duck’s Dun.

    Hook: TMC 103BL, size 13 – 19
    Thread: Brown
    Tail: Grizzly Cock hackle fibres
    Body: Fine Olive Dubbing
    Wing: Bunch of CDC
    Hackle: Dun Cock

    Materials:

Tie in the thread and take it up to the bend of the hook. Tie down the grizzly cock fibres and take the thread up to the eye of the hook.

Take the thread back down and roll a very small amount of dubbing onto the thread.

Tie the dubbing up the hook as shown.

Take 2 CDC feathers (for a size 13) and remove unwanted CDC fibres for the stalk. Tie down the CDC. Tie down the stalks towards the eye of the hook. Trim the excess and wrap thread to make the binding neat.

Attach the appropriate size Dun hackle and tie down. Trim any excess.

Attach a small amount of the olive dubbing to the thread.

Wrap the dubbing around the hook towards the eye.

Make approx. four turns of the dun hackle around the hook and tie off.

Form a nice head and whip finish (again, I like to whip finish twice as I do not use varnish). Trim the excess thread.

You can keep the hackle as it is, or you can trim underneath (I prefer to trim the hackle):

    The finished fly.

A few more for my box.

The photo's are improving. I'll have to do another few step by steps to get it right.

    Cheers,
    Brennan

Very good Brennan, superb step by step - just added these to the to be tied list. I intended reducing my box this season, looks like I will need a ghillie to carry all these new patterns.....

If these keep coming Photobucket will have to buy more stroage space.

What did u use for the background?

    Thanks for the comments.

Otter, the background is an old blue plastic box set up behind the fly. I was in reads today and bought some nice blue card which should be better as there is a bit of light reflection in the first few tying photo's.
I've got a to be tied list too, and most of the flies on it actually come from your list here:

    Thanks!

    Hi Brennan,

I forgot 1/2 doz Minkies 1/2 doz Wooly Buggers for when they refuse everthing bloooody else, and failing that, of off course I need to replace last years stick of dynamite ( I'm told they get a bit unstable with time and if not used should be replaced each season.)

    so add

6 Minkies - in different sizes
6 Woolly Buggers in different sizes
CDC & dynamite blaster - 1 size will do, keep in seperate waterproof box - in fact I would recommend sneaking it into your fishing partners inside pocket. Shouldnt be too hard to find a supplier up your side of the country though thank god a lot of them have retired.
