    Default Ammonite

    Ingredients.

Weight: Either lead sheet or tungsten sheet cut into thin strips.
    Floss to smooth body.
Body: Latex sheet 1x3mm 1x5mm strips

Step 1: Put hook in vice, start thread and tie in first strip of tungsten/lead

Step2: keep tying in shorter strips until you build a bump as near to opposite of the point as you can.

Step 3: Tie in floss and smooth out body

Step 4: Tie in 3mm strip of latex and pull tight as you tie it down to the end of the body.

Step 5: Wrap latex in overlapping turns, as you go towards the middle of the fly ease off tension, then stretch again as itís nearing the eye.
Make sure you tie the latex off with a few good tight wraps before cutting excess, whip finish/half hitch here.

Step6: Tie in the 5mm strip as shown.

Step7: Remove all fluff and size a Partridge feather, tie in by the tip.

Step8: Dub thread and wrap the thorax.

Step9: Bring Partridge feather over and tie off.

Step10: Bring latex wingcase over and tie off with a few wraps before cutting excess.

Step 11: Tease out dubbing under the thorax and fold down legs.

Step12: Colour with marker and varnish.

    Tango
Now thats what I call a step by step

I have tied these from Steve Thorntons instructions but even his photography would have to be at its best to beat that. And I know from experience that these are killer bugs.
    Well done

    Well done Tango51
The Ammonite Nymph is well worth tying, it fishes well up my neck of the woods.

I finally read the user manual on my camera, pics taken with a Panasonic Lumix LZ2, hand held with the anti shake function on. They didn't turn out too bad. Only problem I have is forgetting to reset the white balance when I take outdoor photo's.

I cannot help but see the irony in that
I have to say that considering your advancing years, failing eyesight and shaking, that is a very good step by step.

Because in a moment of madness I sold my Slik 88 tripod. If only I knew then what I know now.

This is a really good step-by-step Tango. I'm very impressed with the pictures. Just goes to show what can be done with a relatively inexpensive camera and no tripod.

    Default Partridge feather

    Tango,

Sorry for being naive where do you get the partridge feather (don't say off a partridge) do you buy them loose or a cape, the ones I see online look different colours?
