Great step-by-step Scotfly!! The once and away is a great fly and has been one of my secret weapons over the last few seasons. Can I add that in addition to peccary you can also use peacock or ostrich quill, horse hair, moose mane or even two strands of contrasting heavy thread which are wrapped and then varnished. This is a sure fire fish catcher if ever there was one! A bit about the development of this fly is given here: http://www.danica.com/FLYTIER/hklink...e_and_away.htm

Excellent tie scotfly. Out of curiosity, would those hooks be good for the Klinkhammer also?

    Default question

Why do u cut the cdc feather as u do, Would that make the fly less bouyant compareded to judging the lenght of cdc feather when tying and leaving the tips uncut..Just wondering..

    Regards,
    Denis.................... ..

p.c. smashing looking fly and truly well tied.

Quite the opposite Denis. You can see how the man himself, Hans van Klinken, ties the fly and the reasoning behind the cut wing here...... http://www.danica.com/flytier/hklink...e_and_away.htm

I get mine from Niche Products. If you follow the link above you will see that HvK give an alternative for the body. You could also try using a stripped white hackle stalk stippled with a black and brown permanent marker.

I'd never heard of peccary before - but wouldn't a great name for fly be a Gregory Peccary ?

    Just a thought
