    Default KatyD

    Hook: You choose
Thread: Black (this is UTC 140)
    Tag: Gold oval
    Flash: Krystal hair
Tail: Orange, yellow and black bucktail
    Rib: Gold oval
    Body: Black floss
    Beard: Blue Guinea fowl
    Hackle: Orange
Wing: Black hair (bucktail used here)

Mount hook and wind down to barb, tie in oval tinsel and tie tag.

    Tie in Krystal hair.

Mix bucktail and tie in tail, cut off at where the body will end.

    Tie in rib and floss

Wind floss and rib to where you started the thread.

Prepare the Guinea fowl beard by removing fluff and cutting out tip.

Tie in with two loose turns and pull stalk until beard is the length you want, then add a tight turn.

Double orange hackle and tie in.

Wind hackle and tie off carefully.

Tie in black hair for the wing.

Trim butts and add a drop of varnish.

    Make head and varnish.

Thanks Jim, as you can probably tell I've been playing with salmon flies this week.

Nice tying there. Usually the blue dyed guinea fowl beard is tied in after the orange hackle and Jungle C0ck cheeks can be added.

Just tried one with the beard outside the hackle

Slightly more fiddly to tie and not a lot of difference to the overall look of the fly apart from head on.

I think you should manage to pick up a few fish on that one.
