off to see friends again in westhill in april, and have fished all the local stuff like insch, lochter etc

is there anything a bit more , well wild, is the best description I suppose.

I have no experience on rivers so the dee and the don look a bit too much ath this moment..but are their any smaller lochs that are fishable from the bank that are not as sterile as insch and lochter? maybe a bit higher up..lots of heather.. a bit like the upland reservoirs here such as cow green or hury(though not as big)

Not a huge amount of lochs up there, why don't you bite the bullet and give the upper Don a try. Try around Inverurie of Alford. Top drawer wild brownies and the river is not to big here.Forget the Dee for trout.

Maharg do you have any mroe info on the Upper Don? Go up to inverurie every year as my girlfriend has friends up there. This year I have boldly demanded I be allowed to take my rods (she gets a day horse riding I get a day fishing, seems fair to me). Are day tickets available on any of the stretches (or free ones?!). Always meant to fish in Scotland but never got round to it.

I fished the Don at Strathdon a few years ago. Lovely stretch of water.
That wouldn't happen with a PridexHidden Content

Nearest Hill loch is probably about a 3 hour round trip from Aberdeen

Lots of good info on the Don on Mike Barrio's site

Take a look at lintrathen , a nice water with reasonable boats. Or there is always the backwater res which is behind lintrathen , lots of wee brownies. You could do worse if the weather is mild than book a day at haddo and try float tubing, mike will ensure you have the right gear...getting towed round by a fish is quite strange. jim
