I've always taken great pleasure from catching plenty trout and grayling on the dry fly without spending much cash. It's part of the game for me and I scoff at tackle tarts. The only thing I seem to fork out big time for are bloody waders, which I cant stop myself continually puncturing

real sad ... I wouldn't be able to survive if I knew I hadn't ordered anything. The anticipation of a package or magazine in the mailbox when you get home. I can't believe any flyfisher would be so in control of himself and not buy flies while visiting a website I look at the Norris or GAC brochure and there's at least (always) approximately 10 items I need and about 20 I don't need but want anyhow
Hope you get well soon. Try this : type 'fly fishing' in google and don't leave the screen till you ordered something. Next day start again and buy two things ... etc. Must get your buying appetite back.
    Good luck,
    J.J.

It started last friday evening when I decided I should sort out all my gear for the new season. I checked all the reels cleaned them , replaced a few lines put new minicons on every one sorted out everything else. lubed the reels and even checked the rods over. Saturday I awoke and was down by the beck preparing for invertebrate monitoring. Then I had a couple of hours fishing. It was great, but at the back of my mind there was already that seed of doubt.

On Saturday night I couldnt sleep I was laid awake thinking and its the sort of problem you really cant share with your wife due to its delicate nature.
So I decided that the assembled wisdom on the forum may be able to help.

So taking a deep breath ......

Gents I really cant think of anything I need to buy or even want to buy for the new season and it frightens me I have never felt this way before. Its not like I have loads of flash gear I dont I have a real mixed bunch of rods and reels that I have become attached to, but those pre season purchases have always been such a lovely distraction. So my question is how can I recover my lust for shiny reels and delicate rods....

    Help please

I get the same way Bruv, bit like OCD.

To overcome it somewhat, I tend to buy second hand stuff, clean it up, repair it, whatever, have a play with it then sell it on.

    Keeps me sane.

    Invent something.

    Hand held fish detector.

    Mobile positronic hatch match identifier.

Fly tying material that submerges to fixed depth and then hangs there.

Reverse drive on flies that catch on rocks.

Time extender machine so you can stay on the water for another couple of hours instead of going home to responsibilities.

Inter-species thought translator that psychokenetically turns fishes thoughts into human language......"I'm not eating that, it's the wrong hackle"........."If it was two feet deeper I'd snaffle that up"......"Delicious looking morsel, but I'm a bit suspicious at the speed it's moving."

Or maybe not, you'd become incredibly rich and that would exacerbate the original problem!

I thought I had problems in life, yours would probably tip me over the edge!!!

    Dear A N Other

I have considered the DAC but will save rejoining for when I am old and infirm and no longer able to enjoy "proper" fishing
