Thanks all for your kind comments - and thanks Paul for posting the BBC link and getting the Hillsborough Hotel's special Wobbly Wader brew on its way! I'm looking forward to that...

For anyone who may be interested, I also had the pleasure of appearing on Keith Arthur's Fisherman's Blues earlier this morning:

Radio - Fishermans blues - talkSPORT ? Transfer Rumours, Sports News, Premier League, Live Football, Live Radio

Hopefully the listen-again version will be up shortly.

    Thanks again all!

Hi again Grouse and all in the States -

I'm still not 100% sure about amazon.com, but my spies suggest that copies may now be available from other US sources via abebooks.com

Oh yes, and that shopping trolley... I did consider adopting it, but reluctantly walked away... only to discover that my photographer for the day (Dominic Garnett, author of the forthcoming Flyfishing for Coarse Fish) went back last week and found it still there! Waiting for me so patiently through all weathers and seasons, how hard-heartedly can I still refuse?... I'll have to check it out again

Paul, thanks for punting that link up - and Welshflyfisher, apologies for delay in replying, I've not been on the forum for a few days!

As to the Taff... I have to confess that I haven't seen much of the water within Merthyr Tydfil itself beyond looking over bridges... when I was discussing with your colleagues Tony and Gareth which stretch of the river to include in the book, they pointed me towards Merthyr Vale since it's apparently a little easier to access and fish.

On the couple of occasions when I fished this stretch (last September and October the year before) I found this a cracking stretch of water, with healthy flylife and satisfyingly picky trout, and I've no doubt that there's more of the same upstream where you've been pulling out the shopping trolleys in Merthyr Tydfil.

Hmm... may have to invite myself back for another look at the hard work done by a superbly committed fishing club... as you might have noticed I'm gradually working up a kind of continuity blog at www.urbantrout.net, so this could make a great little feature sometime

    Thanks again both!

Looking forward reading this book, the water of leith what a river. Fished this place for over 40 years and it's still great.

Pity you never got on the Almond in Edinburgh as it was once classed as the most polluted in Scotland and now a top spot.

Chappy, I know what you mean: when it comes to the point, 70k words actually isn't a lot if you're trying to drill into the history and restoration of 50 rivers in 40 towns. So I had to leave a few out, and I don't mind saying that one or two of those really rather hurt.

But who knows... someday there may be a Trout in Dirty Places volume 2...

(In the meantime, who's for a pint of that Wobbly Wader tonight? Hillsborough Hotel, here we come... )
