Every single line I've ever bought has had apparent memory when spoiling, I always give it a stretch as I spool it, couple of casts and its spot on!

I don't mind having to stretch it it's just disappointing that it is like this to begin with. does heating it before stretching have any effect

If it came on a spool the easiest way is to just stick a pencil through the hole in the middle of it and spool it onto your reel that way,If it didn't then a rolled up mag is the next best option. You can try giving it a soak in warm water before giving it a stretch and re spooling it again

You need a trout to stretch it out, most lines have memory all it normally takes is a good strong fish to straighten them out.

I have been stretching now since my first post and it has done alot to improve the line. however when I'm stretching I am feeling alot of little bumps and kinks. I hope I can get even just the first 20 ft memory free and I'l be happy

I just started using a Snowbee XS which is supposed to be memory free. It had little kinks till a little stretch. It was a coldish day though...I think memory free only works if the line is warm enough to make the PVC supple.
My M8 was still using the line from the Airflo starter kit. We stretched it twice and it still looked like a telephone cord (from the 80's if you remember telephones with cords).

After my experience with a new line I will say that on better lines the memory seems to be on the weighted part where the PVC is thicker. The rest of my line was arrow straight.

Storage in a shop may affect line ie in direct sunlight length of time stored might be years etc usually a wee stretch either by unravelling or a fish will sort it out the way you are describing a bumpy coating does sound ominous I have pirate lines,Barrio rio all very good

You need to stretch when you fish!....Stretch before then put it back on the reel it gets memory again.

an awful lot of stretching going on, its been said already but worth mentioning again, if you let the line come off the side of the spool, rather than rotating it off, it will put a twist in with each coil that comes off, just spinning the line off the spool with a pencil through the middle, onto the floor then winding onto the reel is fine,
pulling the line off the reel onto the floor and running it through a cloth with some lube all the way to the tip, slicks it and takes any twists out in 2 mins, you can see the line spinning the twists out as it goes,

dont trust nut cases that tie lines to trees and things to stretch them, unless you want a nice permanent curve in the tip, i did this with my first posh line after reading it on a forum all you need to do is pull it between your hands and work along it.
