Went to the CLA Game Fair today, we arrived early 09.00, drove straight in, had a great day, grabbed a few bargains, spent time looking at some wonderful gun dogs. We left at 17.00 and had no problems leaving, it took us about 10 minutes to leave our parking space to getting of site. Even the weather was good.

Went to the Gamefair over the weekend although the show was good as usual, and the weather was a darn site better than last year.
As far as the Fisherman row was concerned I found it very disapointing apart from Sportfish and Hardys who made an effort.
There would appear to be less fishing tackle each year I go, have been for the last 20 years.
In the past there has been all shorts of fishing tackle to buy Fly,Caurse & Sea
this year no Sea very little caurse and stands all selling much the same in the way of Fly fishing gear.
Is this due to the resession or dealers thinking it only applies to the Fly fishing fraternity.

It would help that when you email the CLA about a stand they bother to reply.
In my case they did not so i was not there.

Is it really worth the small guys being there? How much is a stand these days?

Lots of small traders present as well as the usual suspects. I never had any trouble with the CLA when I organised the EA stand at Blenheim three times. I started making contact early in the New Year and just carried on from there.

I've not been before so couldn't comment on whether the fishing section was larger or smaller than at previous events. However given that it was a Game Fair I was not surprised that predominantly it was game angling tackle on sale and not so much coarse or sea.
What I did manage to do was have a long chat with a guy at the Angling Trust and also with the boys at the EA stand where they patiently listened to my soapbox ramble about lack of proper licence checking when fishing commercial venues.

Also had a great chat with John Bailey who I have admired as a great allrounder and a real ambassador for the younger generation coming into the sport. Really nice guy and we discussed how poorly represented angling is these days in the mainstream broadcast arena.

Toby, Flytek were there, Chevron and Cookshill too ... I would take their lack of response as a personal insult and I would boycott them next year. They clearly don't appreciate who and what you are and the gravitas of your presence.

It's a shame you weren't there as you could have popped down to the GAIA stand and for an investment of £10 I could have sorted all your problems (casting ones too) in 20 minutes.

Paul.

PS. t was good to catch up with Luke Bannister and the guys on the SW Passport stand, Andy Wren came and said hello and I fell in love with Lucy ... 4 years old. Lucy presented herself for a lesson and proved to be a demon with the Orvis 'Practicast' rods we we using to teach the juniors. So much so it what difficult to get the rod back off her after her 15 minute session.

Over the 3 days the GAIA stand delivered 702 'lessons' equally split between adults and juniors / children.

Great to hear there was so much interest in fly casting and Paul it would take many many more minutes then 20 to sort all my problems out let alone my cast faults.
Have not been to the CLA for years so maybe next year i will go down as a punter.
