Default **** news today

Got told that I have most likely suffering from epileptic absences, where a few seconds go un accounted for, resulting in me having relinquish my driving licence. Absolutely gutted, all the plans of trips for next year near and far all f***ed. I knew I was into my fly fishing but never realised how much until today. Anyone else had experience with this.

Gerry

Geez, Gerry, that sounds life changing in so many ways. My sincerest sympathies.
Could you fish with a friend or guide by your side? Sure, a guide would cost but if it's that or nothing even once a year would be something?

Hi mate, I really feel for you. I had to pack up deer stalking and fox shooting on medical grounds recently so I think I can imagine how gutted you feel - Selling my stalking rifle ripped the heart out of me.
Can you not maybe find someone who is willing to take you out to a few fly fishing venues now and then. I know it's not the same but I'm sure that there are some good, honest, kind hearted folk out there that would be willing to help you out now and then.
If you are in or near my area I certainly would be willing (And delighted) to help out. (I'm in Rossendale, Lancashire)

Sorry to hear of your plight Gerry. I've had three small strokes and I'm required to refrain from driving each time for three months. Years ago illness prevented me from driving for eighteen months and I had to work hard to get my license back. I know exactly how you feel you must be devastated.

Are you taking any medication that could cause that?

The only reason I ask is that about 17 years ago I was put on some tablets that caused me to be paralysed for a few seconds after waking up from a doze in the chair. I lost my licence for six months, I could see & hear but couldn't move for about 20 seconds, frightening.

That is unfortunate news. Are you going to see a neurologist to have the diagnosis confirmed (unless you saw one)? If not I would insist if I were you.

some years back I was diagnosed with the same, after all the tests xrays on the head[ brain scans] blood tests you name it they done it, licence gone my world down the pan then to be told 6mths later, it was lack of concentration
I was angry as well as relieved, I even had to resit for my driving test and fork out the money to re-pass my test, but the one thing that brought things home to me are they amount of epileptic cases there are, you think your alone your not, there are lots of different forms of this epilepsy and they are winning the battle against it in curing the many forms
good luck for the future Gerry and don't let it get the better of you

That is precisely the issue. Misdiagnosis of epilepsy is not uncommon by non-specialist so I suggest the OP sees a neurologist.

To be honest I will still be going fishing it's just I won't can drive myself so will need to rely on lifts. Can't see my missus being to keen to drive me the hour to the Clyde to often. I also work 60 miles away so it's really put a spanner in the works with that as well. Just need to find other ways around things I suppose
