I recall an online conversation where a beginner asked a question about tailing loops, couple of the answers contained terms like SLP etc, informed answers but to me it questions the point of expertise if it can't explain to the person that the expertise is specifically meant to be for.

No argument mate. On another forum and in a related context I quoted the samurai maxim : "A man who has obtained mastery in an art reveals it in his every action". One might add the obvious "or not".

Single hand spey are like Alan said roll casts with momentum. I love to skagit single hand with true to weight lines. If you keep the leader pointing the direction you intend to cast Its as easy as Gouda..

It strikes me that you and TUC maybe have a thing in common, you can adapt a roll/spey cast to do pretty much anything almost to the point where the names of casts become redundant, an intuitive or free style approach if you like, I can see where 'fancy' names that try to define specific things make things more complicated rather than clarify.

I think the snake roll is the most efficient cast for a change of direction, but inherently the most efficient cast anyway because the line moves continually in one direction, in this sense it is exactly the same, or can be, as any spey or non static roll, I think this is where the beauty of spey casting comes from, its efficiency in visible motion.

'Snake Roll' is a pretty fancy name... how would you describe it in simple terms?

I'd be very happy if someone could explain the Voodoo Cast in easy terms! Sort of reverse Snake Roll followed by a Snap-T (or is is Z?)? An explanation of it's actual use would also be much appreciated (apart from 'impressing girls' and tangling your leader...).

Yep, that’s the one! Surprisingly easy if you can do a Snake-Lift both ways and a half-decent Jump-Roll. I’ve yet to meet a fish (or girl) impressed by it but useful if your front cast is restricted in width. A bit risky with droppers though...
