Of course, you're quite right - the glass would run the length of the cork, wouldn't it? Stupid of me. Thanks - and big thanks for digging out & photographing your section. It's things like that which make the forum special - even if it isn't my rod!

Did you see my reply that included the lengths to identify the missing section length. Also is it possible the word 'Specimen' in the "Peter Stone Specimen" writing on the rod means that it was only a sample sent to the now bankrupt wholesaler ????
Regarding 'The Nu-Glass Avalon Rod' - Regrettably the writing is hard to read and even harder to photograph.
All I really want to know about this rod is an approximate year.
As I am sruggling to follow the string of posts regarding my issues can you please advise me on how best to track them.
Once again, very many thanks for all the information so far.

The word "specimen" means that the rod was designed to be used by specimen hunters who are anglers who concentrate on catching large fish of each species, these are known as "specimens". Peter Stone started out as a match fisher but ended up as a specimen hunter as were many of his contempories like Richard Walker.
“There is no more lovely country than Monmouthshire in early spring. Nowhere do the larks sing quite so passionately, as if somehow inspired by the Welsh themselves. There is a blackbird on every thorn and a cock chaffinch, a twink as they call him there, on every bush...... It moved me profoundly. I had been spared to see another spring, and I thank God for it.”

    Hi,
I made a section as suggested and was reasonably pleased with it however I have now found the original section (great stuff) when having a major tidy up.
Obviously I never knew I had it as I bought the rod as part of a large bundle of all sorts of items from a wholesaler that was in recievership. This rod appears brand new and I'm curious about the word "Speciman" on it. Is it possible that refers to it as a salesmans sample ? Your thoughts please. As this no longer fits with my collection is it of any value to anyone. Kind Regards, Chappie.

Try the barbel fishing web site there are people on their who collect old rods. Would like if myself but it would never get used. It would go well with a nice centre pin reel.
