Cheers lad. I've also done some sooty olive seal's fur and a cock cape using the same system of dark grey and yellow together. Will do photos of them when I have done a couple of flies to go with them.

Surprised you have not come across WOIGO to date, Al. It is 'West of Ireland Golden Olive'. There is no exact definition of it - there are at least a dozen different ideas of what colour it is and as many ways to arrive at it by different dye combinations. My own personal favourite is 1 part Jacquard Hot Fuchsia to 15 parts EBEST Fluorescent Yellow...

And if you are dyeing deer hair, every bit comes up slightly different...

These were all in the same bath...

Thanks Col I,ve seen Woigo mentioned numerous times but couldn't work out what it meant.

I never thought there could be so much difference in the final colours using the same mix of dyes.

    Thanks Al

Obviously a lot of it is down to things like using dark back, or pale flank, or white belly as a base, and of course you can bleach it first to give you a lighter starting point, but I also see a big difference in the way that roe and sika take up different colours of dye! Sika likes the fluo yellow, but doesn't like the Hot Fuchsia.

When dyeing standard roe WOIGO, you don't need any olive. You've got a grey base, and in CMYK colours, olive is a mix of grey and yellow. So, if you dye grey hair yellow, you get olive. That was my thinking with the sooty olive - just dye it a darker grey, and then overdye it yellow. It worked surprisingly well!

Had a day on the hills today as the river is in spate and anyway the grayling are not playing yet. I drove up Littondale to Halton Gill and set off over the watershed for Beckermonds, the confluence of streams that is the start of the Wharfe. It was steep but looking back I got good views of Ingleborough and then Whernside powdered with snow. Then it snowed on me and the wind was a freezing biĄch on the top of Little Fell ( it’s not little ). Off the fell, the river down to Yockenthwaite was a delight, I think it’s Kilnsey Anglers water and just perfect looking wet fly fishing. A proper trudge back up to Horse Head with a cold wind at my back took longer than I’d planned, but I got back down to the car before dark. No phone signal, so in trouble from the Memsahib.

On an angling(ish) theme, I popped some materials in the post for, hopefully, a few pics in the tying section.
2019 & it will be time for a change.
